Angie left the giddy heights of a career in London to move to The Cotswolds with partner Steve, where she set up a medium-sized independent hotel.
Over the following years, she became a founding member, and subsequently Vice President, of Logis of Great Britain, supporting growth of the membership scheme to more than 500 members, as well as setting up a tour operator business, bringing overseas visitors to the UK to take advantage of the Lake District, The Cotswolds and Cornwall, on bike or on foot.
After 16 years, alongside raising a family, Steve and Angie decided it was time for something new and so sold their hotel, striking out to grow their tour operator business, while Angie set up apt, to work with hospitality, leisure and tourism businesses. Everything was going swimmingly, until disaster struck, with the devastation of foot & mouth disease, which almost destroyed the industry Angie loved.
Determined as ever, Angie set about securing Government funding to support those businesses affected by foot and mouth, assessing and distributing grants to support diversification and exploration of new markets. She went on to distribute £3.7million within Gloucestershire, at the same time campaigning for the industry, with appearances on BBC and Sky News among others, as well as becoming a small business advisor to the Bank of England.
Angie now has 30+ years' experience (she won't let us be more specific) in the industry and has held advisory positions with a wide range of organisations, including the Gloucestershire Tourism Joint Committee and The Sustainable Tourism Task Force.
